Teleprompter Pal vs Captions

Looking for a Captions alternative for iPhone recording? Choose Teleprompter Pal for free prompting, local takes and reversible edits. Record your delivery, refine the take and keep the original.

Teleprompter Pal requires Pro for every export. Captions allows free basic exports, and its documented $9.99/month Basic plan costs less than Teleprompter Pal’s monthly plan.

Feature comparison

Teleprompter Pal is our pick for rehearsing, recording and refining your own take on iPhone. Choose Captions when subtitles and AI-assisted post-production are central to the job.

This compares Teleprompter Pal with Captions by Mirage, the iOS app from Captions, LLC. Free export and free teleprompter access are different gates. Scroll sideways on smaller screens; a dash means unverified.

Why we’d choose Teleprompter Pal for recording another take

You have the script. The work is getting the delivery right. Teleprompter Pal keeps rehearsal, the camera, playback and saved trim/crop edits together on iPhone. Set the pace, record again and keep the version you want. The script and original stay on the phone; no account is required for this local workflow.

Shortening an opening should leave you a way back. Teleprompter Pal retains the original separately from the edit, so you can restore the length and crop later. Recording and saved edits are free. Pro adds the finished MP4 and every Photos, Files or Share delivery.

That is our reason to recommend Teleprompter Pal for this job. Captions has more AI tools and a lower Basic monthly amount. Teleprompter Pal uses set-speed scrolling, has a 1 MB text safeguard and does not generate captions. See recording with a script on iPhone and Teleprompter Pal’s plans.

Refine the take. Keep the original.

In our saved Teleprompter Pal device check, we shortened an 11.90-second original to a 7.90-second square MP4, then restored the original length and crop. The original remained available.

The check also covered Photos, Files, Share Copy and reopening the edit after restarting the app. It used an internal development build. We have not performed the same edit-reset task in Captions or established a comparative quality, speed or reliability advantage. Read the sanitized test record.

When Captions is the better fit

Choose Captions if the finished video needs styled subtitles, eye-contact correction or automatic removal of pauses. Its documentation also covers manual trim, aspect-ratio changes and retaking a recording segment. Teleprompter Pal does not currently provide those AI editing tools.

Captions advertises prompting that adapts to your pace. We have not measured that behavior, recognition accuracy or how it handles a repeated line. Its published camera controls also include continuous and scene-by-scene text modes. Try the behavior your script needs rather than assuming an AI label guarantees a better take.

Captions Cloud documents recovery and reuse of recorded or imported clips with paid plans. It says clips are backed up, while projects are not synced or backed up. That deserves credit. It does not verify the exact saved-edit reset task in our table, and we do not claim Captions lacks original-footage recovery.

Check what made the export paid

Captions’ current export guide allows basic manual projects on Free and requires a paid plan for most AI features. Its subscriptions guide also lists a free caption template. This can be a useful way to finish a simple clip without paying.

Its pricing table separately excludes the teleprompter from Free. Free camera recording, free manual export and paid prompting can coexist. Teleprompter Pal has a different boundary: prompting, recording and saved edits are free, while every export requires Pro. Check the exact project before relying on either free offer.

Try one script through recording and export

Use the same script, camera position and microphone. Add a pause and a repeated sentence. Set a starting pace with the speech time calculator, record a short take, trim the opening and change the frame.

Close and reopen the edit. Check what can be restored, then export and play the file with sound outside the app. In Captions, try a basic project separately from one using paid tools, and inspect the export gate before committing to a plan.

This is a suggested common task. We have not completed a matched Captions recording/export test or tested its checkout. No comparative performance result is implied.

Sources and testing

We make Teleprompter Pal. This comparison uses saved internal device evidence, current source/offer checks and official Captions documentation. Developer descriptions are not hands-on results.

  • Teleprompter Pal device checks, 19 October 2026. iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 27.0, Teleprompter Pal 0.6.17 (37), development-signed builds. The sanitized record covers the stated editing and delivery task. It does not certify a current public App Store binary.
  • Teleprompter Pal offer and relevant iPhone source. Inspected 23 October 2026 for the local workflow, set-speed reader, 1 MB safeguard and Pro delivery gate. This is source inspection, not a new device test.
  • Apple US listing and lookup: Captions: AI Edits Your Video. Captions, LLC, app ID 1541407007, version 13.39.0, iOS 16+, checked 23 October 2026. This identifies Captions by Mirage, not similarly named apps.

Questions before choosing

Can I export for free?

Captions documents free exports for basic manual projects, with upgrades for paid features. Its pricing table excludes free teleprompter access. Teleprompter Pal lets you prompt, record and save edits for free, but every MP4 and Photos, Files or Share delivery requires Pro.

Is Teleprompter Pal cheaper than Captions?

Not on the documented Basic monthly comparison: Captions lists $9.99/month, below Teleprompter Pal’s $19.99/month. Teleprompter Pal also offers $59.99/year and $9.99/week. We did not verify a Captions annual checkout total, and the bundles differ.

Does Teleprompter Pal add captions or fix eye contact?

No. Teleprompter Pal focuses on your script, recording and reversible manual edits. Captions documents subtitles, Eye Contact and additional AI editing tools. Choose it when those features are essential.

Can Captions recover original footage?

Captions Cloud documents recovery and reuse of recorded or imported clips on paid plans. We have not tested restoring the exact original length and crop from a saved edit. Teleprompter Pal’s saved internal device check covers that specific task.
